HDSB Public Speaking Competition!

On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, your school is cordially invited to participate in the annual HDSB Secondary Public Speaking competition being held at White Oaks S.S. in Oakville.

Each school in Halton is invited to send 2 senior and 2 junior students that are eager to demonstrate their talents for public speaking. Speeches will be divided into Senior and Junior categories and students are given creative freedom on topics and delivery strategies. There will be no microphones or visual aids provided and speeches should be 5-6 minutes in length.

Speeches will be judged on:

Content - organization, effectiveness, originality, logic, and evidence

Delivery - voice, body language, eye contact, enthusiasm, confidence, and overall impression.

The competition will start at 6:30 PM in the South Cafeteria. Presenters should be there at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Prizes will be awarded for individual winners in each category and a trophy for the winning school in both junior and senior divisions will also be provided. Winning schools get home field advantage for next year’s competition! We do ask that speeches are vetted for sensitivity and overall appropriateness.
When speakers have been selected in each category, please have a teacher or the student contact one of the following
