What is VENTURE?
 
Venture immerses children in grades 1-8 in engineering, science and technology. Our curriculum develops problem solving skills and engages kids through experiments, hands-on projects, and fun activities.
Our male and female instructors are role models as people and engineers. Our diverse group breaks down stereotypes and shows students that anyone who is passionate about engineering, science and technology can pursue it!
What is a Junior Counselor?
Junior Counselors (or JCs) work with Instructors in a Venture camp class. They use their leadership, organization, enthusiasm and creativity to create an exciting learning environment for campers!
 
Who is eligible to be a Junior Counselor?
If you are a student going into grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 in September 2014, you can apply!!

What is the Junior Counselor LEADERSHIP PROGRAM?
This program is an Overnight Leadership Conference in a McMaster student residence, followed by a 1 to 2 month work experience program as a Venture JC. The work program is filled with leadership and professional experience goals and workshops regulated by the class Instructors and Venture Directors.

The LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
  • Learn necessary leadership skills and training for the Junior Counselor position at Venture Camp
  • Participate in FUN workshops such as: Leadership
    Motivational Speaker
    Teamwork and Trust
    Communication Techniques
    Interview Skills
    Photography
    Earn qualifications that will look good on your resume for future job applications

    Why participate?
    Receive a letter of recommendation from Venture
    Receive multiple EOHSS (Environmental & Occupational Health Support Services) training qualification certificates
    Participants will earn high school community service hours
    Participants will also gain insight into university life by job shadowing a current undergraduate engineering student
    Certificate of Completion signed by the Dean of Engineering
    All students MUST attend the Leadership Conference to enter the work experience program in July or August

      The Minister's Student Advisory Council (MSAC) is a group of approximately 60 students who come from public schools all across the province. Members share their ideas and advice with the Minister of Education on a variety of topics about our publicly funded education system.
       
       
      Please tell all students in grades 7 to 12
       
      … they are all welcome to apply. The council celebrates student diversity and seeks all perspectives and experiences.
      Tell them about our Facebook page where they can see what other students say about their MSAC experience and get the application form.

      1.      Brain Bee at McMaster Wednesday April 09, 2014
      High school students in the Hamilton-Halton and surrounding area from grades 9 through 12 are welcome to compete!  Students will demonstrate their knowledge about the brain and neuroscience, including fascinating topics involving intelligence, memory, emotions, sensations, movement, stress, aging, sleep, addiction, and more.  Participating is a valuable experience that you can add to your resume -- not to mention the possibility of winning prizes and fame!
